Chapter 6

Shree's POV

The morning sun streamed through the windows of the classroom, painting the classroom in a warm glow. I stretched, my mind still hazy from the first period's lecture on financial accounting. It was  the beginning of another day in my MBA journey, and even though I had been here for a year, the excitement of it all still buzzed through me. Of course I do miss my life in Vrindavan, especially the sweet prashad's of the temple and my people of the orphanage. It's good here too

My eyes scanned the classroom, searching for familiar faces. There was Vikram, who became a good friend in the last semester, his head buried in the textbook.

Maybe it's my special power in becoming friends with the nerds, Kartik is not included.

The bell rang indicating it's time for the next class, that's economics. Well I love economics, it's one of my favorite subjects. Even though I love this subject, I get bored sometimes for not sharing any class with my besties. It was fun when teachers used to throw us out of class for laughing too hard or disturbing class. But that never stopped us from repeating it.

I made my way towards Vikram, we shared the next class too. “Vicky let's go” I said to him, he is still writing the notes.

“Hmm, let's go, just let me finish this last one.” he replied, totally focused on his work.

He completed his very important notes and we moved outside the class.

“By the way, Vicks-” he didn't let me complete my sentence. “Don't call me that.” he glared at me and I got scared, not at all. Chiku the Great is not scared of anyone. 𝑲𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝑻𝒓𝒊𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒌𝒐 𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒅𝒅 𝒌𝒂𝒓.

[Except some Tripathi.]

“So, where I was, hmm, What do you think will be our Economics project this year?” I said moving towards the class.

“Umm, well, last time it was a group project for second year. Maybe this time it will too.” he said as we entered inside and took a seat near the window on a middle bench. Window seats, I love them. If lectures are boring, which they always are, we can enjoy the outside scenery at least, right?

Exactly on time, Professor Sharma entered inside and started the lecture. The lecture was engaging, Professor Sharma's passion for economics evident in his animated explanations. But my mind wandered, picturing the fun I'd have with Kartik and Rashi during lunch.

Just then, Professor Sharma announced about the upcoming project, "Each of you will be assigned a junior student from MBA first year. You will be their mentor, guiding them for their first year project." A wave of excitement washed over me. I love  helping juniors and this was a chance to contribute to the college community. And especially I wouldn't need to write anything just guide them through their work. Woah my hands are blessed.

The bell of the rang signaling the end of the class, everyone started discussing the upcoming project.

“I just don't want some bratty junior to be assigned with me.” Vikram said, breaking my thoughts.

“𝑨𝒓𝒆𝒚, 𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒏𝒂𝒉𝒊 𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒂 𝒌𝒂, 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒓 𝒎𝒊𝒍 𝒃𝒉𝒊 𝒋𝒂𝒚𝒆 𝒏𝒂 𝒕𝒐𝒉 𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒍 𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒂, 𝑺𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒊 𝒏𝒂 𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒊 𝒅𝒊𝒅𝒊 𝒉𝒂𝒊, 𝒘𝒐𝒉 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒌𝒊𝒅 𝒃𝒂𝒏 𝒋𝒂𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒈𝒂. 𝒉𝒎𝒎.” I said placing my the arm over his shoulder.

[ No need to worry, if you get a bratty junior just tell him, Shree is my older sister he will become a disciplined kid. hmm.]

“𝑨𝒖𝒓 𝒌𝒂𝒉𝒊 𝒖𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒚𝒂𝒉 𝒔𝒖𝒏𝒌𝒂𝒓 𝒈𝒖𝒔𝒔𝒆 𝒎𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒂  𝒔𝒂𝒓 𝒑𝒉𝒐𝒅 𝒅𝒊𝒚𝒂 𝒕𝒐𝒉?” he said passing me a weird look.

[And what if after hearing this he broke my head?]

The 𝑵𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒌(hell). That's Offensive.

“𝑼𝒔𝒌𝒂 𝒕𝒐𝒉 𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒂 𝒏𝒂𝒉𝒊 𝒍𝒆𝒌𝒊𝒏 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒂 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒏 𝒂𝒂𝒑𝒌𝒂 𝒔𝒂𝒓 𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒚 𝒑𝒉𝒐𝒅𝒏𝒆 𝒌𝒂 𝒂𝒗𝒂𝒔𝒚𝒂 𝒌𝒂𝒓 𝒓𝒂𝒉𝒂 𝒉𝒂𝒊, 𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒓𝒂” I replied sweetly.

[No idea about them but I really wish to break your head right now, friend.]

“Okay okay, it’s lunch break, let's go. I am going to library you go and have some food, 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒊 𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝒌𝒉𝒂𝒚𝒂𝒍 𝒅𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒂𝒈 𝒔𝒆 𝒏𝒊𝒌𝒍𝒆. 𝑲𝒚𝒐𝒌𝒊 𝒕𝒖𝒋𝒆 𝒋𝒂𝒃 𝒃𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒕𝒊 𝒉𝒂𝒊 𝒏𝒂 𝒕𝒂𝒃 𝒕𝒖 𝒅𝒂𝒂𝒌𝒖 𝒃𝒂𝒏 𝒋𝒂𝒂𝒕𝒊 𝒉𝒂𝒊.” he said dragging out of the class. Who will believe that this is the same guy who even respected his bully in first year and here saying such offensive words to his own friend.

[So that such thoughts get out of the mind.Because when you get hungry you become a bandit.]

“Library, why? Come let's have lunch together.” I said, though I know the answer already, this person here the ‘vicks ki goli’ is a library lover. Sometimes I think he doesn't need water or air to live but textbooks. Even though I love books, Who loves textbooks? Yaar, they are made to be read one day before exams, and our college library is full of textbooks, reference books, workbooks etc. That's the reason I don't like the library of our college. Can't they afford to get a fictional corner, they would definitely have a daily visitor, that's none other than me. 𝑰𝒔𝒎𝒆 𝒖𝒏𝒌𝒂 𝒈𝒂𝒂𝒕𝒂 𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒂 𝒌𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒏𝒂𝒉𝒊 𝒋𝒂𝒂𝒕𝒂, 𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒉 𝒄𝒂𝒇𝒆 𝒎𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒅 𝒔𝒂𝒌𝒕𝒊 𝒉𝒖 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒔.

[It's their loss not mine, I can read books in the cafe.]

After Vikram and I bid bye. I rushed, eager to meet Rashi and Kartik. As I walked towards the canteen, I could hear Kartik's hyena laughter, echoing through the corridors. One more reason to prove him my best friend.

“Hey guys!” I greeted them, sliding into the seat next to Rashi, “ Why is he laughing like that.” I asked Rashi.

“Laughing at his own joke.” She replied casually, it's Kartik's thing to laugh without any reason.

“Guess what? We have a project to mentor a junior student!” I said after Kartik finished his laughing session.

Kartik's eyes widened. “ Really? That sounds exciting! I wish our marketing department would do the same, it would be fun.”

“Our healthcare department has a project of visiting hospitals and learning more about our course.”

“That's great! 𝑰𝒔𝒊 𝒃𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒆 𝒂𝒂𝒑𝒌𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒍 𝒌𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓, 𝑫𝒓. 𝑴𝒊𝒔𝒉𝒓𝒂 𝒔𝒆 𝒃𝒉𝒊 𝒎𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒌𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒊 𝒓𝒂𝒉𝒆𝒈𝒊 𝒂𝒂𝒑𝒌𝒊.” I said referring to Dr. Naman Mishra, our dear Rashi’s fiance.

[With this excuse, you will also be able to meet your heart doctor, Dr. Mishra.]

“𝑬𝒔𝒂 𝒌𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒃𝒉𝒊 𝒏𝒂𝒉𝒊 𝒉𝒂𝒊.” She said, trying hard to control her blush.

[It's not like that.]

“𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒌 𝒉𝒂𝒊 𝒃𝒉𝒂𝒊, 𝒂𝒂𝒑 𝒌𝒆𝒉𝒕𝒊 𝒉𝒂𝒊 𝒕𝒐𝒉 𝒎𝒂𝒂𝒏 𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒊, 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝑴𝒊𝒔𝒉𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒋𝒊.” Kartik and I replied together, laughing in between. And this time she blushed hard with her eyes widened.

[Okay, if you say so, We will accept it would be Mrs. Mishra.]

Rashi and Naman bhaiya are childhood sweethearts. Naman bhaiya proposed to her on our graduation day and she accepted. Just two months later they were engaged and will also get married after Rashi completes her MBA, and settle down in career.

“Seonbae, Can I sit with you guys?” Laksh's voice came breaking my thoughts, When did he arrive here?

“Sure, why not? Come sit with us.” Rashi said, smiling sweetly, a nice way to save herself from our teasing.

“If you want you can invite your friends too, it would be pleasure to meet them.” She said, smiling genuinely.

“Umm, I don't have friends.” he replied, with a small smile with a hint of sadness.

This caught my attention, I looked at him and then scanned the canteen area to find everyone looking over our table.

“Why is everyone staring at us?” I asked out my thoughts.

“Maybe because I am sitting and talking with someone for the first time other than being in a classroom or library alone.” He replied to my question.

“Why are you some serial killer or celebrity that everyone is so fond of?” Kartik said jokingly.

He didn't reply but kept quiet and looked down at his lap. That's not like him, he is talkative and playful and not a silent beauty.

“If you guys are feeling uncomfortable because of me, I can leave.” He said sadly while looking down.

“We are not feeling uncomfortable, but I think everyone will feel uncomfortable in no time.” I said mischievously.

“Chiku, No” Rashi warned, well it's late for any warning now.

“Oh Lucky, don't tell me your brother again forgot to buy my favorite flowers and sent you to apologize on his behalf.” I said starting my drama, placing my arm over his shoulder.

"What are by you saying?" He whispered, perplexed by the drama.

“Just because you're my friend. I am letting it slide, but after this if anyone ever said or did anything to you forcefully, I will handle it myself, hmm.” I said, everyone understood what I meant and again focused on the food on their table removing gazes from us.

I am not any bully they are scared of. It's just Nikhil as in Nick the bully is now my friend. Long story short, I was the cupid of his love story.

“You are really cool, seonbae. First you saved my Adu di from those cheapsters, then punched my Adhyansh– the stone Bhai sa and now helped me." Laksh said acting like my  fanboy, well a I am not  less than a celebrity to have a fanboy, hehe.

My thoughts broke hearing a throat clearing sound. I looked towards the owner of the sound to find Rashi glaring at me. What did I do? The realization hit me like a truck. Laksh just said about the punch part.

𝑭𝒆𝒍 𝒈𝒂𝒚𝒂 𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒕𝒂. 𝑯𝒆𝒚 𝒌𝒂𝒏𝒉𝒂 𝒋𝒊 𝒌𝒂𝒉𝒂 𝒉𝒂𝒊 𝒂𝒂𝒑, 𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒊 𝒓𝒂𝒌𝒔𝒉𝒂 𝒌𝒊𝒋𝒊𝒚𝒆.

[It's a mess now. Hey kanha ji, where are you? Please save me.]

As in a queue, he heard my prayer and my phone started ringing. I looked at the screen to find Aakash Bhaiya, Owner of the cafe I work at, calling.

𝑩𝒉𝒂𝒈𝒘𝒂𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒌𝒂 𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔𝒂 𝒃𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒂 𝒌𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆.

[God will always bless him.]

“Hello.” I said quickly, answering the call.

“Hello, Shree. I was saying you don't need to come to the cafe today, you already did overtime yester–” I didn't let him complete his words.

“What you want me to do overtime at the cafe today too? Okay, no need to say sorry. I will be there early.hmm. Ok bye.” I said making my own lie.

“What ? No–” I didn't let him say anything and hung the call.

“Tripathi, I need to rush to the cafe early. So I will just go and tell Vicky to send me the notes of the next class later. Ok.” I said avoiding eye contact with the duo and taking my bag.

“See you guys later. You too, Lucky boy.” I said waving a bye to them and Laksh.

𝑺𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒚 𝒌𝒂𝒏𝒉𝒂 𝒋𝒊 𝒋𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒕 𝒃𝒐𝒍𝒏𝒆 𝒌𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒚𝒆. 𝑳𝒆𝒌𝒊𝒏 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒏 𝒋𝒂𝒂𝒚𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒓 𝑻𝒓𝒊𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒊 𝒌𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒉 𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒌𝒖𝒍 𝒏𝒂 𝒃𝒉𝒂𝒚𝒆.

[Sorry Kanha ji for lying. But even if life's lost, Tripathi’s lecture will not be tolerated anymore.]
